Well the time has come and the LGBT Community is seeing its first Federal Court Challenge over Gay Marriage being overturned in California. It really amazes me as how the LGBT Community has pulled together to support Prop 8 and it also disgusts me that we still have so many selfish people in our community. I still don't see the major turn outs for other causes such as ENDA, but oh well lets get back to Prop 8.
If you remember right California was the 2nd state in the United States to allow gay marriage. It only lasted for a few months until lawmakers introduced Proposition 8 saying that legal Marriage was only between a man and a woman. Well LGBT Supporters was able to get lawyers involved to challenge that proposition by declaring the law unconstitutional. The court proceedings started last week, with much controversary and will not allow the proceedings to be broadcasted on TV or recorded. Apparently the supporters of Prop 8 are scared that the LGBT Community will educate the public that Gay Marriage will not destroy the so called threads of marriage. Heaven forbid that the American people are educated to make a good decisions in their future voting.
Of course there are religious whackos that are calling for Law Makers to leave office for even allowing this trial to even be heard. Stating that the people have spoken and the Supreme Court up held it. Pastor Jim Franklin of Fresno says the voters have already spoken. He
says lawmakers aren't doing their job. "I think they should be out of
office. They took an oath to defend the constitution, the Supreme Court
has upheld it, the people have voted twice and now they don't have
enough back bone to step up and do their job."
Well this is what I have to say to those people... Our Lawmakers are doing their job espically since there is a reasonable doubt that discrimination is at hand. I am very glad that we had some people step up to take this fight to the Federal Court Level.. it just puts us that much closer to Equality.
