Apparently Rock Island Illinois Police do not know a difference between a hate crime or a battery. Maybe they do know the difference but are too homophobic to deal with a real hate crime against a gay teen. Ok this church has really over stepped its bound, and to me is not just an anti Gay church but a church filled with hate. How they claim to be so righteous is beyond me when they stoop as low to protest a childs highschool graduation. I did some research from my last blog post about Westboro church and have decided to look at this website for the first time. I have heard about it, and really just thought of it as a sickening way of recruiting homophobes to their cause, but I am really disturbed as to the other crap that is on this site. I recently had the wonderful privilege to participate on a very distinguished panel of clergy that discussed the issue of sexual orientation and scripture. One of the audience members asked a question that attempted to link the ban in Leviticus on homosexuality to the ban in Leviticus on bestiality. Several panel members addressed this question. Then the audience member asked it again, which I take as unwillingness to listen or to accept the pro-gay explanation that was offered.

As clergy, we must speak out against despicable acts such as this. As clergy, we must condemn our fellow clergy who preach hate that leads to this. As clergy, we must demand passage of a federal hate crimes law that will prevent acts such as this and provide a means to prosecute such horrendous acts.

Well all I can say its about damn time. We have waited for years to get something like this into law, and it was passed in the Senate last week. There have been speculation that this bill would get passed last month, but it sat in the Senate during that time waiting on a vote.
