Word of a protest from anti gay groups in front of a theater in Cedar Rapids Iowa sparks gay supporters to counter protest.

Hundreds of supporters came out on the opening night of The Laramie Project, a play that tells the story of the aftermath of the 1998 murder of Matthew Shephard in Laramie, Wyoming.

Many had heard Westboro Baptist Church members were going to protest the play. That group never showed up.

This week, the Westboro Baptist Church announced plans to picket and protest the production. A post on their website said, "We will picket your filthy, goofy "theatrical production" of the Laramie Project." Westboro is known for protesting and picketing at military funerals and other events, taking an anti-gay stance.

Well this sparked a few people that support LGBT to spread the word about Westboro Baptist Church comments and that they were going to protest the opening night. It turned out that over hundreds of LGBT supporters gathered in a counter protest at the Theater. People from all over Eastern Iowa embarked on Cedar Rapids to show support for the play and LGBT rights in a peaceful protest. There were cars driving up and down the street, rainbow flags and picket posters. But Westboro didnt show up...

Does this mean that the anti gay protesters are now getting scared that there protest could be met by people on the other side? I do hope to see more of this going around across the country. Counter protest the Anti gay protesters. Do not let it just be a one sided stance. Lets show them both sides of the coin.
